wheeeew! it's been ages since my last post. i guess i kind of forgotten to write something on this blog.

but anyway, i just want to share to you guys what i've been doing all these times. well to start, i have been so busy with school getting ready for graduation and all. thesis makes me a bit cautious, coz seriously, i'm having a hard time getting it done! grrrrrrrr!

aside from school, i have also been busy doing "shortfilms" i have in total 3 films 1 was made by me and my group mates and the other 2 were the ones where i was one of the actors. the film "Sandugo" was made by my teacher for his entry in the MFF (Mindanao Film Festival) which happens to be the Best Picture and got 6 other awards. *astig*! the other one is currently being made, by the group of my girlfriend which i think will also be a BAD ASS film! i can't wait to see the finished product of it! i happened to be the lead actor! LMAO!

well i think thats it for now, here's a photo of a scene in my up coming shortfilm... (mura ko ug korek!) lol *wink*

There are times that we are unaware that we become too comfortable of the thought that as much as we want to be good in the best way we could, we are bound to make mistakes, and with that we pay a price, but all is not lost, with mistakes, we make room for atonement, and with that we learn humility. We cannot please everybody, but we could always make it count. So dont let things go to waste just because we made a mistake, remember, man is bound to do more good than bad, coz if it was the other way around, life would not be as good as this... - poy -

For me, an advertisement can be offensive if it violates the standard norms of a particular society or a particular group of individuals, culture, religion etc. It could be based on moral grounds, personal, business or other reasons that one can provide to say that it is in fact offensive. Like in our country, priests hate condom commercials 'coz they don't approve of the use of contraceptives. It maybe offensive for them but not to me.

So before I go deeper in my discussion, let me just say that this is solely based on my own understanding and i believe that judging an ad to be offensive or not is ultimately up to the individual.

I think it would be safe to say that what could be offensive to some is alright for others. This also follows that every commercial has their own set of target audience. They particularly make an ad to cater to a more larger group in a society, or it could be catering to a minority group.

An example of an offensive commercial that i can think of is the napkin commercial of Kim Chiu, Whisper. Since only girls use napkins, their ad is focused soley on females, young and adults alike. But why do they have Gerald Anderson in Kim Chiu's commercial? And the tag line is a bit offensive for me, "why do men love whisper?", I haven't met a guy who loved whisper, and why would they love it? What does Gerald know about menstruation? I don"t even know what that commercial is trying to imply. To be honest, for me it was more on the sexual side, to think that they are still teenagers. (maybe I will see Gerald in a Feminine wash commercial in the future)

And they make fun of Pacquiao's Vit Water which i think makes more sense to me. You know?

But one aim of advertising is to catch viewers attention, some intentionally make offensive commercials to catch viewers attention. This is practiced in 1st world countries where the competetion is high. The more viewers react to a commercial the more effective it is, regardless if it's negative or positive. What's important is that you have connected with your audiences and somehow generate emotions from them, enough that they remember your product.

Now, I'll move on to my next point. I have noticed a lot of commercials that has a bad taste in it. Bad taste in a sense that the commercial itself has completely nothing to do with the product being endorsed. (some are just so dumd enough that it pissess you off)

I have a nephew who is still 8 years old, when i asked him to spell his name, he answered LBC!
Edu Manzano, who unfortunately happens to be the Chairman of the Optical Media Board, said TUMPAK! when this kid in the commercial answered LBC which is according to Edu is the correct spelling of Remittance. Now that for me is bad taste. (Air21 Express is way better off with their tag line, "Sagot ko sir!"). There is also this commercial about a Sealant, (the one we use if our ceiling is leaking) at the beggining of the ad, a very sexy, seductive barely clothed girl appeared and talks "sluttish" and is the one doing the endorsing of the product.(my father might have the wrong reason for buying the product) It is very unlikely to see a woman barely naked climbing to the roof and seals the hole In their ceiling.

This LBC ad is so effective that they now have children as their audience and possible consumer. (sarcasm) And this sealant ad is so persuasive that fathers fantasize about a barely naked girl while sealing the holes in their ceiling.

Now in advertising, a bad taste commercial is a double blade tool. This could have a very positive effect to the viewers to the point that they can't forget the product which would remind them of the ad. Or it could be negative to the extent that no one want's to buy that product 'coz they hate that commercial so much they condemn it. But as I've mentioned in my earlier statement, an ad is effective if it generates emotion or reaction from their viewers, and any form of response is being considered.

If I have to elaborate this phrase in philosophical terms, it would literally dry my brains out. So let me just explain this in the most common and comprehensible way that it would not sound alien.

Man is nothing else but what he makes of himself. In my own understanding, man (meaning we, people) is a product of his own decisions. What we do with our lives and how we do it is ultimately up to us. This means that if we start smoking or do dugs, then we unconsciously or consciously put our health in danger. Although most of the time we have reasons for doing these. And we let ourselves be governed by these reasons, which make that choice driven by something else, or it is predetermined.

Although we are all free to make a choice for ourselves, we are still bound by laws which limit our choices. For instance, if I decide to kill someone because I hate them, I can freely do so, but on the other hand I can’t, because it is nature’s law that we don’t have the right to take another man’s life and in man’s law it is punishable and a mortal sin. Therefore I won’t kill a man even if I hate them so much.

I hope I’m explaining this well, after all, this is how I understand it. (smirk’s)

Destiny is what most people believe in, but for me, destiny is a concrete example of life being predetermined. If we are destined for something, then what we do or the choices we make don’t matter at all, because we (man), are what they say, destined for it. But in reality, we reap what we sow, we are what we eat. Even Superman chose to save the human race even though he was destined to conquer Earth. (A big fan of the man of steel)

More often than not, we tend to limit our God given potentials and capabilities by getting bothered by how other people see us or what they think of us. If we just let ourselves go on with our lives unaffected by others criticisms, we probably would dare to do things we haven’t even thought possible.

When you realize you are choosing something, you have more of a choice. And that’s what makes man nothing else but himself. In my world, I have always believed in the saying that… “It’s not important what you choose, but why you chose it”. Basically live your life for your own reasons and the rest doesn’t matter, even if it is predetermined.

This is my best understanding of the quote: “man is nothing else but what he makes of himself”

Well, i really don't know what to say in this entry but i will try my best to let you guys relate more so that you won't have to waste your time reading my blog/blogs...

It is already 3:30 in the morning and my head is throbbing. I just got home from "Torres" (a place that's very crowded, like a park, only difference is that almost all of the people there are drunk, i think you get the picture) and i was thinking about why i was in that place in the first place? And why was there a need to get drunk? (but i do this most of the time though, "drinking") Only one thing came into my mind, and it was simple. I was lonely.

I was lonely because it has been 20 days since i haven't seen my girlfriend ("deng", who happens to be my best friend, sister, classmate, foe, lover) and i am missing her so damn much!
Ever since i was a kid, i had problems with people leaving me, people who i care about, people who are so dear to me. And this time, its been the longest time that we have been apart from each other, which for me seemed like it's been a year or two (it's just 20 days, i am exaggerating), a very long time for a very young relationship, if i may add.
We celebrated our 13th month apart, and let me tell you, it was more agonizing than i thought it would be. She was not there on my birthday, but it was alright, i can celebrate it when she returns (it may be late, but at least we get to celebrate it together). Still it was sad, not the typical happy birthday.

Whats my point in this blog? Well, it's the thought of being apart from someone you treasure the most for a long time and feeling that void around you.
I'm sure you can relate to what im saying, because i know we all have at somepoint love someone so dear and we can't stand to be apart from them.

Now, having said all of that, let me take you back to my premise.
The only time, and the only thing i can do to handle this situation is to be with some friends and get drunk. Get drunk so that i will be numb, numb enough to negate that feeling of being lonely, eliminate that thought of being apart from your other half, and ignoring that void around you, not feeling alone (since alcohol numbs the body, you cannot feel external forces, also making your body heavy and your mind dizzy), not feeling anything, but you know you miss something, or rather, someone.

So by making this blog entry, i am making a testament to what i am feeling. This is a clear manifestation that i am missing her so damn much!

Now before i go to sleep i am hopeful, because today is a day less without her, which ultimately means that, the day that she would be there when i wake up, is just a few more sleeps away... =)
(I think i had too much alcohol...)
